It’s conventional for Cycling Plus staffers, around this time of year as the nights draw in and temperatures go through the floor, to make grand plans for the coming year – often having not fulfilled the one’s from this!

For three staffers – writer John and our two art gurus, Steve and Rob – those goals have been set even higher than usual, with the trio entering the Deloitte Ride Across Britain (8-16 September 2018). Britain’s biggest Land’s End to John o’Groats bike ride sees over 800 fully-supported cyclists riding nine centuries, back-to-back – 969 miles over every sort of terrain our country can muster. We’re not panicking – yet, anyway – and that’s because it’s still close to a year away and we’re probably still in denial about what we’ve let ourselves in for. The hard work ahead of us can wait a while longer – just not too long.

In the meantime we’re looking to boost our number by one by inviting a reader along for the ride. In addition to entry to the event, the winner will receive training plans from the organisers and a secondary invite to their other big cycling event, the Dulux Trade London Revolution - two days round the English capital on 12-13 May 2018 – where you’ll meet the team.

What we want to know from you is simple. To win your place simply explain why, in up to 300 words, you are ready to ride it. Our panel of judges will select the most compelling entry.
