Despite international holidays for UK residents still being no less than illegal as we went to press on this issue, we can still dream of what will be possible when restrictions are lifted. And this new book from DK Eyewitness, Ride: Cycle the World, will make you dream big, because it’s filled with 100 brilliant bikepacking routes from across the planet. Power up mountain passes in Italy’s Dolomites, tackle Bolivia’s infamous Death Road or go island-hopping in Japan, Ride takes you around the world in search of adventure on two wheels.
The book begins with helpful advice on how to choose the best bike for your adventure, alongside useful tips for preparing for your ride. This is then followed by 100 routes arranged by continent: 20 in North America; 13 in Central & South America; 32 in Europe; 8 in Africa & the Middle East; 13 in Asia and 14 in Australasia, selected by expert adventurers including Cass Gilbert, Jenny Tough, Oli Broom and Lee Craigie. Each ride includes images and descriptions, maps, elevation profiles and practical information – including things like distance, difficulty and road surface – that will help you plan the nitty gritty of your trip.
As well as the Ride book, we’ll also throw in a DK Eyewitness travel book of Cycling Plus’ choosing from a selection of our favourite cycling destinations, including Mallorca, Slovenia and Catalonia.
